There is a special upcoming exhibit in the Houston community as part of Día de los Muertos.

Discovery Green
Discovery Green will host eight, 20-foot-tall sculptures designed and created by Mexican artists and artisans. These sculptures depict creatures from the spirit world as imagined through Mexican magical realism.
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) centers of welcoming back ancestral spirits. In the month of October, Bo’s Place decorates the building and creates an altar for participants to honor their loved ones. Alebrijes can symbolize spirit guides and are often placed on altars for Día de los Muertos or used as decorations during special celebrations. On November 1st, Bo’s Place will host Ofrenda: A Dia de Los Muertos Event, where families and friends pay respect and share memories of their loved ones who died.
Bo’s Place participants will also be completing a meaningful Alebrijes activity in many of the support gropus. Participants will explore examples of different animals and the unique characteristics associated with each one. Using these examples as inspiration, they will create their own Alebrijes by combining characteristics that represent themselves with characteristics of their loved one(s) who died.
This creative activity offers participants an opportunity to reflect on their special connection with their loved one, feel connected to their memory, and find meaningful ways to carry that person’s memory forward as part of their lives.
