Looking for a rewarding opportunity to help others? We are always in need of volunteers in a wide variety of roles at Bo’s Place. Take a look at our current volunteer positions and contact us if you see one that’s right for you.
Note: Bo’s Place welcomes individuals or groups of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering at Bo’s Place, please contact our Volunteer Manager at 713-942-8339 or by email at volunteer@bosplace.org.
SUPPORT GROUP FACILITATOR | Bo’s Place Volunteer Facilitators are at the heart of what we do. Under the direction of Bo’s Place clinicians, these volunteers lead grief support groups for children, families and adults. Volunteer Facilitators complete an online application, in-person interview and tour, background check, online abuse prevention module, and a 2-day training. We also ask that all volunteers provide three references who can speak to their character. We ask new volunteers to commit for a minimum of one year of service and be at least 22 years old. Both English-speaking and bilingual facilitators (English/Spanish) are needed.
HOSPITALITY VOLUNTEER | Family grief support groups at Bo’s Place begin with a shared meal or snack. Hospitality Volunteers help create a warm environment for our families by greeting them as they arrive and arranging food and service items for the meal. Following the meal, volunteers prepare leftover food and tidy up the kitchen/dining room. Hospitality Volunteers complete an online application and background check. Upon approval, volunteers attend an in-person tour and training for their role. Hospitality Volunteers must be at least 18 years old (15 years old if accompanied by a legal guardian).
MEAL SPONSOR | Meal sponsors provide and serve a meal for grief support families or participants. These meals are a special treat and provide an alternative to the traditional potluck-style meal at Bo’s Place. Meal sponsors may also decorate the dining area for special occasions or holidays, or prepare goodie bags for the children.
SPECIAL PROJECT VOLUNTEER | Special Project Volunteers provide support to Bo’s Place in a variety of ways, including:
- Assistance with fundraising efforts
- Help at outreach, development, and program special events
- Activity or material preparation
- Zoom Host for virtual groups (rename and assign participants into group)
- Administrative and clerical support
Both individual and group opportunities are available. Individuals complete an online application, then will be approved by the Volunteer Department. Once approved, the volunteer will be contacted about opportunities as they arise. Zoom Hosts will also be background checked.
QUILT VOLUNTEER | Bo’s Place Memory Quilts allow grief support group members to commemorate their person who died. Decorated quilt squares are assembled by volunteer quilters and the resulting quilts are displayed on the walls throughout Bo’s Place as a colorful and touching memorial to those who have died. Both individual and group opportunities are available. Individuals complete an online application, then will be approved by the Volunteer Department. Once approved the volunteer will be contacted about opportunities as they arise.
