Thanks to a generous Grief Reach grant from the New York Life Foundation and the National Alliance for Children’s Grief, Good Grief for School Professionals workshop will be offered free of charge to train school professionals to support grieving youth with confidence and compassion. This in-person workshop is for school professionals who are trained and experienced in providing social/emotional support to students. Through this training, school professionals will gain an understanding of children’s grief at different developmental stages, identify indicators of grief, and learn about current grief theory. Attendees will be provided with strategies and interactive activities to use to engage with students about grief and death and templates for creating student support plans.
Attendees will receive a resource bag including grief related educational handouts, samples of activities, a children’s book, and a workbook to help support grieving students. There will be door prizes!
Learning Objectives:
- Describe several indicators of grief as a full-body experience.
- Distinguish children’s understanding of death at different developmental stages.
- Identify helpful ways to support grieving children and teens in the school setting.
