Volunteer Appreciation Month: Honoring the Heartbeat of Bo’s Place

March 31, 2025

April is globally recognized as Volunteer Appreciation Month, a time for nonprofits like Bo’s Place to reflect on volunteers’ incredible impact and express deep gratitude for their dedication. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, bringing compassion, commitment, and a sense of community to those we serve.

The Impact of Volunteers at Bo’s Place
At Bo’s Place, our 20 full and part-time staff members rely on an extraordinary network of volunteers to extend our reach and serve grieving individuals. From July 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025, our support groups welcomed 808 participants—an achievement only made possible through the selfless dedication of our volunteers. Simply put, Bo’s Place would not exist without our volunteers.

By the Numbers: The Power of Volunteerism

  • 427 volunteers have supported Bo’s Place this year.
  • 182 Facilitators ensure our grief support groups remain available and accessible.
  • 90 Hospitality Volunteers create a warm, welcoming space by greeting participants and providing meals/snacks.
  • 161 Special Projects Volunteers support development efforts, outreach events, and on-site projects.
  • 148 Memory Quilts lovingly crafted by Quilt Volunteers are displayed throughout our space.
  • 4 Zoom Hosts ensure seamless virtual meetings by managing participant assignments.
  • 68 Volunteers helped make Ofrenda: A Día De Los Muertos Event a meaningful experience.
  • 59 Volunteers completed our Volunteer Facilitator Training this year.
  • 8 Junior League of Houston, Inc. volunteers provide ongoing Hospitality and Special Project support.

A Heartfelt Thank You
Our volunteers have already contributed 6,721 hours this year, but their impact extends far beyond numbers. They bring comfort and hope to the grieving, and create a space where healing begins. Words alone cannot express our gratitude for their generosity and dedication. They are heart healers, the heart of our mission, and they help us heal hearts every day.

To our volunteers: Thank you. Your kindness, time, and unwavering support mean the world to us and the participants we serve.
To those who know a Bo’s Place volunteer: Take a moment to thank them for the incredible work they do.

Join Us in Making a Difference
If you are inspired to give back, we invite you to become a part of the Bo’s Place volunteer family. For more information on volunteering, email volunteer@bosplace.org. Together, we can continue to heal hearts and uplift those in need.
